Documents You Need to Apply

Paystubs (30 consecutive days closest to when you submit your application)

Proof of residency for all members in the household (i.e. – health insurance, Medicaid, income documentation, utility bills, court custody documents or residential lease listing household members)

Any other sources of income (i.e. – unemployment benefits, social security benefits, child support benefits, etc.)

Driver’s license or passport for primary and secondary parents

Members of the United States Armed Forces may be asked to submit a copy of the Leave and Earning Statements (LES)

The Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA) is different than other state scholarships in that it allows parents to personalize the education of their children with unique abilities by directing money toward a combination of programs and approved providers. These include schools, therapists, specialists, curriculum, technology – even a college savings account.

Gardiner & McKay transition to Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA).

As you may know, on July 1, 2021, new legislation went into effect that consolidated the number of scholarship programs by rolling the Gardiner Scholarship and McKay Scholarship into the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA). This happened in two phases:

In the 2021-22 school year, students who benefited from the Gardiner Scholarship for the 2020-21 school year transitioned to the FES-UA program.

In the 2022-23 school year, students who have received the McKay Scholarship to attend a private school will need to transition to the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities, or FES-UA.

The Hope Scholarship gives parents options to place their child in a safer academic environment.

K-12 students who have reported an incident of harassment, hazing, bullying, robbery, sexual assault and more, may be eligible for a scholarship to attend a private school or a public school in a different school district.
